Public Speaking with Alan Devine:
Alan Devine visited the school on the 5th of October for a public speaking workshop with TY.
Alan plays the part of Louie Gleeson on Fair City.
The first important point Alan made was about how important first impressions are, especially in situations like job interviews.
He gave us tips on how to stand, hold your hands and facial expressions when addressing a crowd.
Our first activity was called “Heres a Good One”, We had to walk out infront the class and recite a pre written joke for the class.
Our next activity was called “Old King Cole” which was a concentration based game and required an excellent memory.
We also worked on our eye contact, we were made stand in front of the class and hold eye contact with each person in the room for 3 seconds.
After lunch we played a game of verbal charades.
Alan then told us about our final activity, that we would have to write a speech and present it in front of him and the class on the 13th of October.
Alan also told us about some of his favourite speeches which he had heard from other schools.
Reflection:
Overall, I really enjoyed the public speaking workshop. I found it very useful and I think it really benefited my confidence.
I also found Alan to be a very interesting and funny and made the whole workshop fun and interesting.
