Song Writing Workshop:
On the 12th and 13th of March, Transition Years participated in a song writing workshop with Darragh and Sean. On the first day we spoke about the music business and jobs in that sector.
Then each person gave a song that they liked, we then narrowed it down to three songs to base our own songs off of.
We then began to analyse the songs, we observed the make up of each of the songs, the type of instruments used etc.
Afterwards we were divided into groups to come up with lyrics for our song, we used newspapers to help come up with lyrics to our song.
For the rest of the day we worked on the music to our song by coming up with a beat and adding and taking away instruments during the song.
To start day 2 we learned about the science behind sound and we watched videos about sound frequencies.
Then Sean showed us the music software they use to layer different sounds to create music for songs, whilst this was going on Darragh was taking people out to sing for the vocals of our song.
Reflection:
I really enjoyed the workshop, not only did we have a professionally produced song but we learned loads about producing music and the music business, I would highly recommend this workshop because it was fun and enjoyable.
